What is integrated marketing communications?

A short definition

Integrated marketing communications — IMC — is the discipline of orchestrating every touchpoint a brand has with its audiences so the message, tone, and experience hold together. In practice that means treating advertising, public relations, direct marketing, sales promotion, digital, social, content, experiential, and internal communications as a single system rather than as disconnected channels.

The agencies catalogued here practice that orchestration in different ways. Some are full-service holding-company brands working at global scale. Others are independent specialists who lead with one craft — strategy, design, performance media, earned media, or production — and connect to partners around it. Both models matter, and both are represented in the directory.
